About Coach Ryan Cook

Coach Ryan Cook brings over two decades of experience, leadership, and championship-level results to Gold Schopp Wrestling. A graduate of Edinboro University, Cook competed for the Fighting Scots before launching a coaching career that would leave a lasting mark on Pennsylvania wrestling.

For over 20 years, Cook served as the head coach at General McLane High School, where he built one of the most consistent and respected programs in District 10. During his time at McLane, he developed 52 PIAA state qualifiers, 12 state medalists, 2 state finalists, and over 40 district champions. His leadership helped produce multiple national-level placewinners and elevate the program into perennial postseason contention.

Beyond wins and medals, Cook is widely recognized for his positive, athlete-first approach and for helping young wrestlers stay in the sport long enough to reach their potential. He has mentored athletes of all styles and ability levels—always focused on technique, mindset, and long-term development.

In 2025, Cook was named the first-ever head coach of Edinboro University’s women’s wrestling program, helping lead the charge in growing opportunities for female wrestlers at the college level. A longtime advocate for expanding access and inclusion in the sport, Cook also launched the girls’ and junior high girls’ teams at General McLane before taking on his college coaching role.

At Gold Schopp Wrestling, Coach Cook leads the women’s-only training sessions, creating an encouraging, high-level environment where girls can build skill, confidence, and community. His unmatched experience and dedication to athlete development make him a cornerstone of the club’s mission to grow the sport the right way—for everyone.
