About Coach Jeff Boyd

Jeffrey Boyd is a highly accomplished wrestler and coach whose journey includes state championship success, NCAA Division I competition, academic excellence, and collegiate coaching experience.

A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Boyd was a standout wrestler at Erie McDowell Senior High, finishing his prep career with a 99–22 record. He was a four-time PIAA state qualifier and captured the 2018 PIAA Class 3A State Championship at 132 lbs as a junior, going 36–2 and recording 13 pins en route to the title. He was also a three‑time District 10 champion, 2018 regional champion, and a two-time NHSCA All-American (2017–18).

At the collegiate level, Boyd wrestled for West Virginia University, compiling a 39–35 career record at 141 and 149 lbs. His top season (2022–23) featured a 16–10 mark, and he placed eighth at the Big 12 Championships, earning notable wins over ranked opponents and a strong showing at the prestigious Southern Scuffle. As a graduate transfer to The Citadel, he earned a spot at the 2024 NCAA Division I National Championships by placing second at the Southern Conference tournament (149 lbs), becoming the first Citadel wrestler to qualify since 2022 and finishing the season with an 18–13 record.

Academically, he was twice named an NWCA Scholar All-American and a multiple-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Psychology from WVU in 2023, graduating with a 3.6 GPA, and completed a Master of Arts in Sport Management at The Citadel in May 2025 while continuing to earn academic honors 

After college, Boyd spent a year as an assistant coach at The Citadel, working closely with D1 athletes and gaining experience in leadership, mindset coaching, and athlete development. Now he serves as the Assistant Men’s Wrestling Coach at Gannon University, coaching alongside his father, Tom Boyd—and giving back to the Erie wrestling community where his passion began.
